Without further consideration, winners and those submitting art work hereby consent to the inclusion of their name, likeness, biography, and submission on the website, in the gallery, and/or in one or more books or articles that may be published and/or documentaries that may be produced about this contest and its art, as well as in advertising and publicity relating thereto.Official Rules
The Manifest Hope: DC Online Contest (“Contest”) commences at 12:01 p.m. (noon) EDT on December 22, 2008 and ends at 11:59 a.m. EDT January 9, 2009 (the “Contest Period”). Submissions may be made to the Contest from 12:01 p.m. (noon) EDT on August 2, 2008 to 11:59 a.m. August 18, 2008 (The “Submission Period”). Contest is sponsored and run by Evolutionary Media Group, headquartered at 1111 North Las Palmas, Los Angeles, CA 90038 (“Sponsor”).
Eligibility
Contest is open only to natural persons older than 18 years of age as of the date of entry, who are U.S. citizens or U.S. resident aliens. Employees, independent contractors, officers, and directors of Sponsor, its affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising, promotion and fulfillment agencies, and legal advisors, and the immediate family members and persons living in the same household of such persons, are not eligible to participate in the Contest. Employees or other agents who have intimate knowledge of the plans, projects, needs and themes of the Obama campaign, independent contractors, officers, the Democratic National Committee, their affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising, promotion and fulfillment agencies, and legal advisors, and the immediate family members and persons living in the same household of such persons, are not eligible to participate in the Contest. Contest offered only in the 50 United States, the District of Columbia, and U.S. military bases abroad. Void where prohibited by law.
Corporations are not eligible to enter.
All Selected Grand Prize Winners who would like to sell their works at the Manifest Hope: DC gallery and donate proceeds to furthering the grassroots art movement must sign the consignment form provided by Manifest Hope: DC.
How to Enter
Create a piece of artwork, either 2- or 3-dimensional, that exemplifies the themes and grassroots energy that drove Barack Obama’s campaign (“Submission”). Your Submission may include or be about Barack himself, or it may merely involve the themes outlined in these Contest rules. Using the Submission Guidelines below, your Submission should be creative, memorable, and informative.
Any time during the Submission Period, access Sponsor’s website at www.ManifestHope.com and complete the Contest Entry Form, which will request your full name, phone number, email address, and postal address as well as other information. Then, upload images of your Submission as directed. If your Submission is 3-dimensional, you will be allowed to upload up to three (3) images. Designate how you would like your attribution to appear if you are selected as one of the 45 artists to be featured on the Manifest Hope: DC website (www.manifesthope.com) (e.g., “Mary Smith, Chicago, IL,” “M. Smith, Chicago, IL,” or “Mary S., Chicago, IL”).
Submissions may be the following still digital forms (sorry, no moving images): JPG, TIFF, GIF, PDF, or TIFF. We recommend the Submission image(s) be 300dpi. Any Submission image may not exceed 10MB. The physical size of your Submission should not exceed 70 lbs, or be larger than 60” x 60”. Submissions that have previously been displayed are eligible, so long as the Submission is (1) available for publication; (2) available to be exhibited on this website and its related and/or linked websites; (3) available for display in Washington, D.C. at the Manifest Hope: DC Gallery in Washington, D.C. during the days proceeding the Presidential Inauguration; (4) in one or more books or articles that may be published and/or documentaries that may be produced about this contest and its art; and/or (5) in advertising and publicity relating thereto.
You may enter one Submission per category with a maximum of 3 entries. Each Submission must be separately entered under the specific category in which you would like to compete.
- Submissions must be about the themes of Health Care Reform, Workers? Rights, and/ or the The Green Economy.
- Submissions should not talk about or specifically reference other Democratic candidates or their pictures.
- Submissions may reference John McCain, George W. Bush, or the Bush administration, but only in the context of the mission of the Contest.
- Please, no personal attacks on anyone.
- Submissions must be appropriate for a broad audience and the subject matter should be suitable for television viewing, gallery viewing, and online viewing.
- Submissions should be consistent with the progressive political values of Sponsor, as solely determined by Sponsor.
- Submissions should not depict harmful or illegal activity or substances, or offensive subject matter, as determined by the sole and exclusive discretion of Sponsor.
- Submissions must also be original works of authorship. By entering, Entrant warrants that his or her Submission is original with him or she does not infringe any third party’s rights, and that Entrant has obtained any necessary permission from all relevant third parties to submit the Submission. All Submissions must be original works of authorship created by the Entrant who submits the Submission and who must be a natural person. Entrants may not be, nor may Entrant use in the Submission parties who:
- Are represented under contract (e.g., by a talent agent or manager) that would limit or impair Sponsor’s ability to show the Submission in any media form, including those listed here;
- Have acting or modeling contract that would make their appearance in the Submission a violation of any third party rights;
- Are under any other contractual relationship that would prohibit Sponsor from using the Submission as outlined in these rules.
- * Sponsor reserves the right to exclude any Submission that doesn’t meet the above criteria, at Sponsor’s sole discretion.
Judging Criteria
All otherwise eligible Submissions submitted during the Submission Period will be judged according to the criteria listed as follows:
On or about 12:01 p.m. December 22nd, 2008 through January 9, 2009, pursuant to an initial screening for inappropriate content, The Manifest Hope Host Committee will select up to 45 finalists. On January 9th, a panel of qualified judges will score each of the qualified finalist Submissions according to the following judging criteria: Overall Impact (25% of overall grade), Originality (25% of overall grade), Positive Message (25% of overall grade), and Artistic Merit (25% of overall grade). Judges will report which finalist Submission receives the highest score to Sponsor and the fifteen (15) Submissions receiving the highest overall score shall be deemed the Grand Prize Winning Submissions (“Grand Prize Contestants”). In the event of a tie, the tying entries will be rescored until a winner is selected. Up to 30 additional Submissions will receive the award title of “Manifest Hope: DC Gallery Winners” (“Selected Contestant Submissions”).
No later than 11:59 p.m. on January 11, 2009 Selected Contestants will be notified using the phone number used on the original entry form. In the event that the entrant is a Grand Prize Contestant, (s)he will be provided information on where to ship his/her winning entry, at Manifest Hope: DC gallery?s expense, for display during the days preceding the Presidential Inauguration from January 16, 2009 through January 19, 2009.
All grading decisions are in the absolute discretion of the judges and are final. Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify and remove from competition any entry that is, in the judging panel’s discretion, inappropriate, offensive, defamatory, or demeaning to Sponsor’s reputation or goodwill. All Selected Contestants may be required to complete an affidavit or declaration of eligibility/liability release and, except where prohibited, a publicity release and such other documents as may be required by Sponsor to protect its right to use the winning submissions as specified in these rules. Because of the tight scheduling deadlines, required documents may be returned after display of the items, but in no event must documentation be returned later than 72 hours after notification. Failure to comply or return of any documentation may result in forfeiture of winning status and prize, in Sponsor?s discretion, and Sponsor may select the next highest scoring entrant, at its discretion. A parent or guardian of a winner not of the age of majority in state of residence will be required to ratify and sign required documents. Sponsor is not responsible for and shall not be liable for late, lost, misdirected, or unsuccessful efforts to notify winners.
Prize
15 Grand Prize Winners: The 15 Grand Prize winners consent to having their artwork first displayed at the Manifest Hope: DC Gallery in Washington, DC during the days preceding the Presidential Inauguration from January 17th through January 19, 2009, and then online at ManifestHope.com along with the 30 Second Place Winners. Up to 30 Second Place Winners: The Second Place Selected Contestants will be notified on how to upload their Submissions to the Manifest Hope: DC website (www.manifesthope.com) Prize is limited to recognition of entrant as creator and artist of the Submission.
In the event that a Grand Prize Winner is unable to ship his/her Submission in a timely fashion, Manifest Hope: DC and its partners reserve the right to request a Second Place winner be featured instead.
Publication. Without further consideration, winners and those submitting art works hereby consent to the inclusion of their submission in a book that may be published about this contest and its art.
General Terms and Conditions
By participating, entrants agree that Sponsor, its shareholders, agents and representatives, affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising, promotion and fulfillment agencies, and legal advisors are not responsible or liable for, and shall be released and held harmless from: (i) telephone, electronic, hardware or software program, network, Internet, or computer malfunctions, failures, or difficulties of any kind; (ii) any condition caused by events beyond the control of Sponsor that may cause the Contest to be disrupted or corrupted; (iii) any printing or typographical errors in any materials associated with the Contest; (iv) any and all losses, damages, rights, claims and actions of any kind in connection with or resulting from participation in the Contest, or acceptance of the prize, including without limitation, claims based on publicity rights, defamation, or invasion of privacy. Sponsor is not responsible or liable for Entries that are not successfully submitted by the end of the submission period. Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to suspend or cancel Contest at any time if a computer virus, bug, or other technical problem corrupts the administration, security, or proper conduct of the Contest. All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of these Official Rules, or the rights and obligations of participant and Sponsor in connection with the Contest, shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California, without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules or provisions (whether of the State of California or any other jurisdiction), that would cause the application of the laws of any jurisdiction other than the State of California.
